How to Join the BAP Family?

Our eligibility standards are based on Beta Alpha Psi National requirements and adapted to Northeastern Illinois University’s programs.

General Membership Requirements

To be considered for candidacy in NEIU’s Beta Alpha Psi chapter, you must:

1. Demonstrate Ethics and Professionalism.
Commit to the values of honesty, integrity, and professional conduct in all chapter activities.

2. Be enrolled at Northeastern Illinois University at the time of application in one of the following.

- Master of Science in Accounting (MSA) program
- Undergraduate major in Accounting
- Undergraduate major in Finance
- Undergraduate major in any other field with one of the following approved minors:
  1. Minor in Accounting
  2. Minor in Finance
  3. Minor in Financial Technology
  4. Minor in Forensic Accounting
- MBA Program (following concentrations only).
  1. Finance
  2. Information Technology

3. Complete the Minimum Credit Hours.
Have completed at least 30 semester credit hours (including transfer credits), with at least 9 credit hours completed at NEIU in your declared major or approved minor.

4. Demonstrate Academic Performance:

- Achieved a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 in upper-level (300-level) courses within the declared area of concentration, and
- Attained a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0, or
- Achieved at least a 3.25 cumulative GPA on the most recently completed 30 semester hours.

Transfer Students

Transfer students are welcome to apply if they meet all eligibility criteria and have completed at least one semester at NEIU prior to initiation.

Candidate vs. Member Status

When you first join NEIU’s Beta Alpha Psi, you begin as a Candidate. Candidates are students who have met the eligibility requirements and completed the application process but have not yet been formally initiated. During the candidacy period, you will participate in service, professional, and chapter activities as outlined in the XP Program.

Once you successfully complete these requirements and maintain the academic standards, you will be formally initiated as a Member of Beta Alpha Psi during the initiation ceremony. Members are recognized nationally, enjoy the full privileges of BAP, and must continue meeting GPA and participation standards to remain in good standing.

Maintaining Membership

To remain in good standing after initiation, members must:

Maintain the GPA requirements listed above
Fulfill chapter service and professional activity hours each semester (see the XP Program for more information)
Actively participate in meetings and events (see the XP Program for more information)

Application Process

Verify Eligibility: Confirm your major/minor and GPA requirements.
Submit Application: Complete the NEIUBAP application form below.
Interview: Participate in a short interview with the chapter officers. This step is waived for Fall 2025 applicants!
Welcome Chat: Participate in an informal conversation with our welcome team: current members who will introduce you to the chapter, answer your questions, and help you get started.
Candidate Fee: Good news! This step does not apply to you. Joining NEIUBAP costs you nothing! The College of Business and Technology covers the national candidate fee ($85 value for 2025), so you can enjoy all the benefits of membership without paying a dime.
